An Ounce of Prevention

One of the most annoying things is to have every program start in some stupid directory, other than where you store your files. Windows tries to save them various "temp" directories but some of these are 4 or 5 levels deep. Taking the time to customize your apps will save you allot of time in the long run.

Here's how to tell any application where to look for documents and where to save them by default:

1. Find the shortcut to the app on your Desktop or Start menu (for the

Start menu shortcuts, right-click on the Start button and select open,

then drill your way to the shortcut).

2. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties.

3. Click on the Shortcut tab. Now type the path to the folder of your

choice in the Start In box.

Your program will now start in this directory whenever you save or open a file.
